Stefan about social commitment:
"Movies like slumdog millionaire show the sad reality of people in the third world who have to live with less then we spend going to the movies in a month.
During my time with Bayern Munich we visited India and had the opportunity to meet so many sincere and open-hearted people who were excited about things that are normal for us!
Success and wealth also means responsibility for others!
Further information about kiva - an organization I'm supporting - can be found on the right hand side.
Everybody can join in and help to provide a better life for somebody else! "
Yours,
Stefan Maierhofer
My kiva page:
Kiva's mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty.
Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs around the globe.
The people you see on Kiva's site are real individuals in need of funding - not marketing material. When you browse entrepreneurs' profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan, you are helping a real person make great strides towards economic independence and improve life for themselves, their family, and their community. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments. Then, when you get your loan money back, you can relend to someone else in need.
How you can help:
Join www.kiva.org and help people in the third world to build up a better life!
An example how kiva helped Stella Nyoni:
"She is running a crops selling business (rice) and used the loan to buy more rice in bulk for her business. She works for 10 hours per day, 7 days per week. Since she took out the loan, her monthly profits have increased. She has used these extra profits to successfully repay her loan as well as paying school fees for her children, she made improvements to her house, to pay water and electricity bills and bought better food for her family."
